Happy Friday Parents and Students!

Hello Div 02 Parents and Students,

Thank you for taking the time to read our weekly blog post.  I appreciate those parents who continue to support their child by ask them questions about what they are doing in class.  I would also like to thank those students who continue to use the blog games to practice the skills we are learning in class.

Important Note: parents I would like you to read with your child for at least 20 minutes a day.

This week in room 231:

Math- we finished our number sense unit by comparing fractions, decimals and percents.  We brought our basketball unit into the classroom by having the students evaluate shooting percentages.  Our focus this week was converting fractions and decimals into percents.

LA- we continued to read our novel "My Name Is Seepeetza."  The students wrote a letter to Seepeetza's teachers about their discipline policies and we continued to practice our fluency.  The students used the I-Pads to record their reading and evaluate their fluency.  We also had our spelling test today.

Art- the students painted their topographic maps.  They look wonderful.  Parents please stop in and take a look!

Gym- we learned a new fit camp routine, did some layup data collection and went outside for some play time.

HCE- we talked about understanding the importance of  how much sodium we need,  the good and bad types of sugars, and the importance of fiber intake.  We also evaluated our snacks for how much sodium, sugar and fiber they contain.

Science- the 6's continued to work on their electricity web quests and the 7's looked at the difference between food chains and food webs.

Science Tech- the students continued to design a blog and we spent the week programming robots.

Thank you for an awesome week.  I look forward to seeing you all on Monday!

Math- we continued to work on decimals.  This week we focused on multiplying and dividing decimals.  Next week we will link our understanding of fractions, decimals and percents to our Basketball unit.  We have also started looking at linking our LA reading strategies to word problems in Math (questioning, making connections, visualizing, making inferences and transforming)

Science- the grade 7's learned about food webs and how they are an important part of an ecosystem and we finished our bean sprout experiment looking at Abotic/Biotic factors.  The 6's continued to work on their electricity web quest and we learned about circuits with Mr. Savard. Next week we will be programming the robots we built.

Art- we integrated our Social Studies 2D map making into Art by constructing 3D topographic maps.  We also made a class mosaic, which we hung up on the wall.

Gym- we did some 3 on 3 basketball and fit camp.

HCE- we talked about carbohydrates- good (complex)vs bad (simple).  And the grade 7's spent some time talking with Dr. Claire.

Computers- we started designing out own blogs using weebly.

Thanks for an awesome week and don't forget to check out the decimal games on the blog!
