Is it Spring yet?

Hello Parents and Students of Div 10,

We had another busy week in room 231.  Congrats to our Queneesh Basketball teams who played very well this week against Cumberland and Aspen Park.  I'm super impressed with the improvements our teams have made.

This week we covered the following concepts:

Math: we reviewed how to simplify and order fractions, and we were introduced to how to convert a fraction to percent.  We will have a quiz on Tuesday on how to convert fractions to percents.
LA- this week we continued to focus on conventions and note taking.  Capitalization was the focus this week.  Next week we will be talking about apostrophes.  Each student was also given the opportunity to plan and write their two paragraphs for Identity Day on Wednesday Feb 24.

Science- we discussed the composition of our sun and looked at moons and their orbit, comets and asteroids were another area of discussion.  We completed an onion review and had a unit quiz.  All students did well on their quiz.  Thanks for the hard work.  Our last unit will focus on exploring our own moon and its composition.

Socials- yesterday we got back into our final lesson of Early Man.  We talked about the Neolithic period and how important it was in creating an Agricultural revolution.  We discussed how the Fertile Crescent became one of the first civilizations.  Today we finished our unit with a Jeopardy game and time capsule celebration.

Gym- we learned two new games called Battle Ball and Dive Ball.  The students also did a Fit Camp on Thursday.  Thanks to Meghan and Kaitlyn for organizing that for us!

Thanks for an awesome week.  I look forward to seeing all your smiling faces on Monday!

Homework- complete your Identity Project, complete lesson #5 for capitalization lesson

Happy Valentines Day

Hello Parents and Div 10 Students,

What another awesome week at the Q.  I feel so privileged to have such a wonderful class.

Math- reviewed how to convert improper fractions and mixed numbers, discussed how to create equivalent fractions using multiplication and division, look at what it means to simplify a fraction using repetitive division and the GCF, introduced how to compare and order fractions.

Science- we talked about stars their composition, and life cycles.  We discussed our sun and it's composition and we worked on our planet guides.  Planet Guides are due on Monday Feb 14.

Gym- we learned a few new games: fresher, paper/rock/scissors tag, 4 corners

LA- we finished our last lesson on the comma, we practiced our Daily 5 and completed our novel study on "How To Steal A Dog."  Please have your character trading cards completed for Monday Feb 14.

Have a great weekend and a happy Valentines Day!
