Hello Parents and Div 10 Students,
Thank you to all those parents that helped with the grade 7 pizza fundraiser. On another note thank you to all the students who worked so hard preparing for our school dance. I was really proud of every student that participated. My apologies parents and students for not being at school the past couple of days. On Wednesday evening I lost my voice and I still have not fully recovered it yet. Thank you to Ms. Appleton for stepping in for me.
This week in room 231 we covered the following:
LA- the students performed their oral stories to a small group and we started to discuss the parts of an essay(introduction, thesis statement, body and conclusion). The students practiced writing thesis statements based on a variety of questions and topics. We also explored advertising techniques. Each student spent this week planning and filing an advertisement using I-Movie for their golf course. Next week the students will be presenting their golf courses to a panel of hand selected judges.
Math- much of our Math time this week was sucked up by filming advertisements for our geometry golf course. Next week I'm hoping to start some probability. The students did get some time to play Sum Dog and work on reviewing all skills.
Social Studies- we are finishing off our research on BC First Nations. The last region we will look at is the NorthWestern part of BC and the First Nations principles of learning. This will be the backbone of our first essay.
Gym: we spent some of this week practising our flash mop waltz dance and playing minor games such as blastball, corridor ball and mushroom ball.
Thanks for a great week. I'm looking forward to being back in the classroom on Monday morning.
Upcoming Events: bowling/hot chocolates field trip, grade 7 girls field trip, golf course presentations

Happy Long Weekend!
Hello Parents and Div 10 Students
Once again we had a very busy week in room 231. Please take a closer look at the important reminders on the left side of the blog.
Math- in Math the students embarked on a geometry journey. The students are using their geometry skills to design an 9 hole mini golf course. Each partnership or individual was awarded 4 work blocks to complete their design. Students also have Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday to complete their golf course. Golf courses are due on Tuesday May 23. On Tuesday the students will start part B- making an advertisement to sell their course.
LA- our focus this week in Language Arts has been First Nations Oral Storytelling. We had an aboriginal story telling join our class on Tuesday and we've spent the whole week practising and preparing for our own oral story telling performance. We will preform on Tuesday May 23. Audience members will participate in a peers and self assessment.
Art- this week in Art we started to design our very own masks. We looked at some example and discussed who masks were an important part of BC First Nations culture.
Social Studies- in Socials we continued to inquire about BC First nation groups. We completed research on the south west coast of BC and started to explore the southern interior of BC. We used the following note taking strategies: two column, power notes, boxing strategy.
Gym- We learned a new game called First Nations Baseball and we practised our school dance. Please be prepare for our school dance this Wednesday.
Thanks and enjoy your long weekend

Happy Friday!
Hello Parents and Div 10 Students,
What an awesome work week we had at Queneesh. I really love coming to work everyday to work with such a hard working group of learners. Congratulations to those Div 10 students who were selected for our SD 71 Track Meet: Samantha, Trent, Nolan, Kaitlyn (Track Meet is on Tuesday May 17th).
This week in room 231 we covered the following learning concepts:
Math: we finished of our last lessons on transformations (translations, rotations and reflections). We will complete our geometry unit by having the student design their own mini golf course by using their geometric skills learned in class. This will start on Monday!
LA: this week we focused our attention on First Nation oral story telling. We explored a variety of stories/legends told by BC First Nation groups. We discussed the importance of story telling and the key components to telling an engaging story. Next week we will have an oral story teller join us and we will be retelling our own oral story to a small group.
Gym: we learned two new games in gym this week: container ball and roller ball. I'm hoping that in the upcoming weeks this we can design a Frisbee golf course and play it on our school fields.
Social Studies: last week we kicked off our BC First Nations unit. We are currently learning about the climate, location, resources, spiritual beliefs of BC First Nations.
Art: in the upcoming weeks we will be working on designing masks which will be related to writing a story. There will be two guest speakers to talk about the history and design of masks.
Thank you for a great week!
