Hello parents and division 2 students,
We had another super busy week at Queneesh. Congrats to the boys and girls basketball teams that played against Huband on Wednesday! This week in room 230 we explored the following topics.
Social Studies- we build topographic maps and discussed land forms, contour lines and topography. We also had a guest speaker, "Ken Lees" talked to us about Residential Schools. If you don't know about this topic please ask your child because our goal in our class is to educate others.
Math- we continued to work on decimals. This week we focused on multiplying and dividing decimals. Next week we will link our understanding of fractions, decimals and percents to our Basketball unit. We have also started looking at linking our LA reading strategies to word problems in Math (questioning, making connections, visualizing, making inferences and transforming)
Science- the grade 7's learned about food webs and how they are an important part of an ecosystem and we finished our bean sprout experiment looking at Abotic/Biotic factors. The 6's continued to work on their electricity web quest and we learned about circuits with Mr. Savard. Next week we will be programming the robots we built.
Art- we integrated our Social Studies 2D map making into Art by constructing 3D topographic maps. We also made a class mosaic, which we hung up on the wall.
Gym- we did some 3 on 3 basketball and fit camp.
HCE- we talked about carbohydrates- good (complex)vs bad (simple). And the grade 7's spent some time talking with Dr. Claire.
Computers- we started designing out own blogs using weebly.
Thanks for an awesome week and don't forget to check out the decimal games on the blog!
Mr. Tobacca
