Hello parents and students,
Even though it was a short week it was an awesome week. I'm so proud of the progress we are making as a class. There are some wonderful things happening in our class and I'm enjoying everyday we work together. Thank you for be such great learners!
This week in room 231 we covered the following concepts:
Math- we've been exploring order of operations. Please remember BEDMAS when doing order of operations. There is a new link on our blog to order of operation games, please check them out!
LA- we continued to practice our Daily 5 and link our reading strategies (make connections, ask questions, visualize and determine importance) to Math word problems. We learned about expository paragraph writing and wrote an expository paragraph on the following prompt "If we were the principal for the day." Ask you child about the parts of a paragraph!
Science- the students continued to work on designing websites to promote sustainability around ecosystems or renewable energy.
Socials- the grade 6's finished their jigsaw discussion about what it means to be Canadian. We covered topics such as: growing up in Canada, media messages, how to avoid stereotypes and cultural identity. The grade 7's continued to work on their ancient civilization newspaper.
Gym- we learned how to play Rugby! We had a special Rugby coach from UVIC "Tony" show us the basic skills of Rugby.
French- we started learning how to talk about our family members in French.
HCE- as a class we discussed what Conflict is and how to resolve it. Over the next few weeks we will focus on conflict resolution.
